ERR_URL_TOO_LARGE β€” URL File Too Large

HTTP Status: 413 Retryable: No Automatic retry: None.

What the User Sees

A warning toast: β€œThe linked file is larger than the 100 MB limit.” It tells the user to split the document into smaller files (for example by chapter) or compress its images.

What Causes This Error

β€œConvert from URL” (services/url-import.ts) streams the download with a running size cap of MAX_FILE_SIZE. It also rejects early on an oversized Content-Length. The same error is returned when a web page declares a PDF version (<link rel="alternate" type="application/pdf">) that is itself too large. In that case, β€œpaste the PDF link” would fail the same way. details.maxMb carries the limit.

Resolution Steps

For Users

  1. Split the document into smaller parts and upload each one.
  2. Or reduce its size (compress images, remove embedded media), then try again.

For Administrators

  1. No admin action is needed. This is the same limit as a direct upload.
  • ERR_URL_TIMEOUT: the download didn’t finish within the import time budget
