Accessibility Statement β Source of Truth
This is the canonical copy for the public accessibility statement page rendered at
orgchart.theaccessible.org/accessibility (apps/org-chart/src/app/accessibility/page.tsx).
Keep this document and the page in sync. The companion detailed conformance report is
org-chart-acr.md (VPAT 2.5, WCAG edition).
Statement date: July 12, 2026 Target standard: WCAG 2.1 Level AA (the U.S. DOJ ADA Title II web standard) Feedback: accessibility@theaccessible.org β five-business-day response target
Our commitment
Accessibility is the reason TheAccessibleOrgChart exists. We build both the application and the org charts it generates to be usable by everyone, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technology. Organizational information should be available to every member of an organization, regardless of ability.
Conformance status
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA across the application and the org chart output we host. Based on our July 2026 self-assessment (see the ACR), the product supports the large majority of Level A and Level AA success criteria, and partially supports a smaller set where work remains β most notably:
- Alternative text for customer-uploaded photographs (we default to the personβs name; a per-image alt-text editor is planned).
- Color-independence and custom-palette contrast (the built-in themesβ solid text and indicator colors are contrast-verified; translucent/gradient decorative colors and custom colors chosen by a customer are not, and a picker-level warning is planned).
- The interactive radial view, which is keyboard-operable and paired with an equivalent keyboard-accessible list; complex SVG announcement quality is pending a formal screen-reader test pass.
- Completeness of error identification/suggestion across every account and upload form.
This is an honest statement of current status and ongoing effort, not a claim of full conformance. This is a self-assessment; no third-party audit has been performed yet (one is on our roadmap).
What we test
- Automated (axe-core in CI): every build runs axe-core; generated charts are also run through axe-core in a headless browser plus a purpose-built 15-rule static validator.
- Contrast: all six built-in radial themesβ solid text and indicator colors are verified by a programmatic contrast test suite; translucent/gradient decorative colors (e.g. connector strokes) are excluded and rely on design review.
- Keyboard: manual keyboard-only testing of the radial chart, accessible tree, editor, and share dialogs.
- Screen readers (roadmap): structured NVDA/JAWS/VoiceOver testing is planned.
Known limitations
- AI-extracted data may contain errors; review the accessible editor before publishing.
- Customer-uploaded image content and custom color choices cannot be guaranteed accessible.
- The radial visualization does not reflow like text; use the accessible list equivalent.
- Third-party components (e.g. Stripe checkout) are maintained by their providers.
- Tagged-PDF/PNG export is not yet available.
